Klaten Regent and Central Java BPK Chief Arrested After Being Named Suspects by KPK
JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named three people as suspects following a sting operation linked to alleged corruption within the Klaten Regency Government during the 2025–2026 budget years. One of them is Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, Klaten Regent for the 2025–2030 term.
During the operation, KPK investigators detained 23 people on 15 October 2026 in three locations: Klaten, Surakarta and Jakarta. Ten of them were taken to the KPK’s Red and White Building for further questioning. The investigation subsequently focused on three suspects.
“After finding indications of a criminal corruption offence, the KPK held a case conference at leadership level and decided to take the case to the investigation stage. Once sufficient evidence had been obtained during the investigation, the KPK named three people as suspects,” KPK Acting Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein said on Friday (16 October 2026).
The suspects are Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo; Ahmad Luthfi H. Rahmatullah, head of the Central Java office of the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK); and Muhammad Amin Wahyu Utomo, a private-sector figure from PT Madani Winasis Creative (MWC). The KPK has detained all three for an initial 20 days, from 16 October to 4 November 2026.
“They are being held at the detention centre at the KPK’s Red and White Building,” Taufik said.
