Klaten Regency Government held an emergency assembly of the River School Forum at Bendo, Buntalan village, on Friday (23 October) to protect the river and preserve its environment.

Acting Klaten Regent Mahanni Yulindha Pratiwi, known as Linda, said the environmental initiative was organised in collaboration with the Girli River Care Group (KPS Girli).

“Today we are holding an environmental activity with our friends from KPS Girli in Buntalan. Thankfully, the event went smoothly. We are also very inspired by the community’s activities here: residents live alongside the river and are able to protect it,” Linda said.

Linda said she hoped people in Klaten who live alongside rivers would help preserve the natural environment.

“Our hope, on behalf of the Klaten Regency Government, is that residents—particularly those who live alongside rivers—will work together to protect them. This will affect both the environment and our shared health,” she said.

The river-care action involved various parties, including the Klaten Regency Government through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Environmental Agency (DLH) and Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (DPUPR), as well as Basarnas, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the River School Forum, volunteers and other groups.

The event also included the inauguration of the River School Forum’s executive officers, the handover of cleaning equipment, the signing of an environmental conservation pledge, a river clean-up, the release of fish fry and tree planting.
