Klaten Police distribute social assistance to residents affected by floods in Cawas Sub-district, Klaten, on Wednesday (4 March). The distribution of aid to flood victims at evacuation posts and residents’ homes was led directly by Police Chief AKB Moh Faruk Rozi. The floods inundated residential areas due to the overflow of the Dengkeng River. The flooding was compounded by the breaching of the river embankment in Dukuh Jetakan, Bawak Village. Embankment breaches also occurred in Japanan Village after a day and night of heavy rain. During the humanitarian operation, Chief of Police Rozi went to the flood-affected areas. In addition to handing over aid, he observed the flood situation in the settlements and the flood response process being coordinated with relevant parties. Public Relations Head of Klaten Police, AK Suwoto, explained that the presence of Chief of Police Faruk Rozi along with police at the flood site was a sign of concern for the flood victims. The residents’ settlements were flooded due to the overflow of the Dengkeng River. In addition to distributing humanitarian aid to flood victims, Klaten Police also deployed personnel to be actively involved in flood response together with BPBD Klaten, BBWS Bengawan Solo, the district government, volunteers, and local village communities. ‘Klaten Police will continue to collaborate with the regional government and all relevant elements in the flood mitigation efforts in Cawas Sub-district,’ said AK Suwoto. According to BPBD Klaten, about 120 residents were evacuated to several evacuation sites, including the Cawas Village Hall and the Al Ikhlas Mosque. For flood management in Cawas Sub-district, BPBD Klaten established a post and a general kitchen at Cawas Village Hall. (E-2)
