KL won't recall students in Jordan
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Malaysia scrapped a decision yesterday to recall 150 state-sponsored university students from Jordan after its government promised to review their tuition fee.
The earlier decision to bring back the freshmen students, who are in Jordan on a scholarship provided by the Pahang state government, was forced by the doubling of their tuition fees because of the Malaysian currency's devaluation.
But Jordan's ambassador to Malaysia, Abel Ilah Mohamad Kurdi, met with Pahang Chief Minister Khalil Yaakob Wednesday and told him the students should stay on in Jordan, the national news agency, Bernama reported.
The report quoted a statement by Khalil as saying that Jordan is reviewing the tuition fee structure for students from Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
