KL Video pirate threatens officers

KUALA LUMPUR (AP): A Malaysian businessman facing possible legal action for video piracy held five enforcement officers and two reporters hostage in his store and threatened to burn them alive, news reports said on Wednesday.

The 42-year-old man, who was not identified, and his employees locked themselves and the seven hostages inside the shop on Tuesday and threatened to set the place ablaze, saying "now we die together," the national news agency, Bernama, reported.

Enforcement officers in the northern state of Penang were accompanied by reporters on a routine inspection when they found about 15,000 pirated video compact discs in what appeared to be a distribution center for the discs, according to the New Straits Times newspaper.

Police later arrested the man. He faces a possible jail sentence and a fine of 100,000 ringgit ($2,630) for obstructing officers.
