KL urged to move immigration office
SINGAPORE (Reuters): Singapore has warned Malaysia that rail
passengers will face problems if Malaysia does not shift its
immigration operation in the city state, Singapore's Ministry of
Home Affairs said yesterday.
It said in a statement that Singapore had told Malaysia that
"rail passengers will face difficulties and inconvenience if
Malaysian immigration insists on executing their duties at
Tanjong Pagar Railway Station" after Friday.
Malaysia has thus far refused Singapore's request that both
countries' immigration operations move from Tanjong Pagar in
downtown Singapore to a new station just across from Malaysia.
Singapore plans to move its own operations there effective on
Saturday.
The Malaysian state-owned railway Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM)
owns about 200 hectares of Singapore land under a 1918 agreement
drawn up by the British that gave it the land for as long as it
operated train services.
