KL urged to allow Anwar go abroad
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): International pressure mounted on Thursday
on the Malaysian government to lift its ban on jailed politician
Anwar Ibrahim traveling abroad for surgery, while his lawyer said
his health was steadily worsening.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union urged Prime Minister Mahathir
Mohamad's government to grant the former deputy prime minister's
request to be treated in Munich, Germany, for a slipped disc.
The statement comes during a visit to the United States and
Britain by Anwar's wife Azizah Ismail, who leads an opposition
party, to drum up support for her husband.
It also comes as Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair said the
protracted dispute about his client's treatment was making his
condition worse.
