KL to tender airport deal
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's second international airport project will tender 27 more packages worth 680 million ringgit (US$272 million) before the end of the year, officials said yesterday.
Twenty-one packages of contracts, including the biggest one for the main terminal building, have already been awarded, officials said.
The chairman of Kuala Lumpur International Airport Bhd., Clifford Herbert, said on Thursday three other packages worth 168 million ringgit ($67.2 million) were being evaluated while another 11 valued at 1.6 billion ringgit were in the tender process.
The airport project at Sepang, 40 miles (64 kilometers) south of here and Malaysia's largest construction project, is due for completion at the end of 1997.
The entire airport is expected to cost nine billion ringgit, officials said.
The biggest contract for the airport was awarded to a consortium led by Malaysia's Pernas Precision Engineering and Construction (Perspec) Sdn. Bhd. last year.
