KL to sign UN anticorruption treaty
MALAYSIA: Malaysia said on Wednesday it will soon sign a UN
convention on corruption aimed at increasing international
cooperation in recovering funds and bringing suspects to justice.
Malaysia will sign the UN Convention Against Corruption at a
conference in Merida, Mexico, next week, Prime Minister Abdullah
Ahmad Badawi said.
"We hope it can help us in solving whatever corruption cases
in Malaysia," Badawi said at a regional conference on fighting
graft.
"The general areas that are covered by the convention include
criminalization of bribery, prevention of corruption and
promotion of integrity, international cooperation, including in
asset recovery and extradition," he said.
The UN General Assembly approved the convention -- the world's
first anticorruption treaty -- in October. -- Reuters
