KL to investigate diplomat's death

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia will investigate the death of the
head of Bosnian embassy here after the diplomat's family
complained of poor medical treatment at a private hospital, the
prime minister said yesterday.

"We will look into the death and see what happened," Mahathir
Mohamad was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency. "If the
Bukvic family's grievances are true, we regret it," Mahathir
said.

The family of the charge d'affaires, Ibrahim Bukvic, 55, who
died in hospital on Tuesday, said they were dissatisfied with the
treatment.

The diplomat's son, Amer, 22, was quoted saying in the New
Straits Times that the family had lodged complaints with the
Pantai Medical Center and the foreign ministry.

Bukvic was admitted into the hospital on Jan. 31 and underwent
a series of operations including one on his appendix and another
on his intestines, according to Amer.
