KL soccer body seek corruptors
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): The Malaysian Football Association, in
a crackdown on widespread corruption, said all players and
officials in its professional or premier leagues had to declare
their assets, local press reports said yesterday.
"When they declare their assets, we will be able to identify
those who are living beyond their means," the New Sunday Times
quoted the association's deputy president as saying.
Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahamad Shah said the soccer body would
impose life suspension on players and officials found corrupt and
to have resorted to match-fixing.
On Saturday, local newspapers reported that three players from
the northern state of Penang had admitted accepting 15,000
ringgit (US$5,800) each from illegal bookies to fix a match. A
fourth player, a team reserve, was paid 1,000 ringgit ($393) to
run errands.
