KL satellite makes first broadcast
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysian satellite MEASAT-1 yesterday
made its first live broadcast since it was launched into orbit in
January, beaming a program on state-owned television.
The Malaysia East Asia Satellite-1 (MEASAT-1) telecast live a
community event in southeastern Malacca state attended by Prime
Minister Mahathir Mohamad, officials said.
Binariang chairman Hanif Omar called the program, on Radio
Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), a "milestone in the local history of
broadcasting."
The government has also undertaken to use the satellite full-
time for its television programming.
