KL, RI consider "open skies"
KUALA LUMPUR (AFX): The government is considering implementing
the "open skies" concept with Indonesia, similar to Malaysia's
recent agreement with Thailand, The Sun quoted Transport Minister
Ling Liong Sik as saying.
He said the matter was discussed with his Indonesian
counterpart during his recent visit to Indonesia.
"Indonesia's response is favorable but they asked their
officers to study the agreement signed between us and Thailand
before considering the proposal," Ling said.
He said his recent visit to Indonesia was to lay the
groundwork for follow-up talks between the carriers of both
countries on Oct.15 and 16.
Ling also said the recent open skies agreement with Thailand
in terms of capacity, frequency and destinations to various
airports, will need further planning before it can be
implemented.
