KL plan on border wall welcomed
PONTIANAK, W. Kalimantan: Police officers in West Kalimantan
welcomed Malaysia's plan on Thursday to build a brick wall along
its 870-kilometer border with Indonesia on Borneo island.
West Kalimantan Deputy Police chief Sr. Comr. Iwan Panji
Winata said the Malaysian plan would help police and other
security agencies on both sides of the border fight transnational
crime.
The Malaysian plan was recently disclosed by Malaysian deputy
home minister Datuk Zainal Abidin Zin.
Iwan said if the plan was really carried out, it would help
protect border areas from smuggling and other illegal
transnational activities.
"There will also be no more intrusions into Malaysian
territory by illegal immigrants (from Indonesia) if the plan is
implemented," he said. "If they (Malaysia) can do it, why
not ...," he said. -- Antara
