KL party's youth to discuss Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): The youth wing of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's ruling party will hold a special meeting to discuss the issue of dismissed deputy Anwar Ibrahim, party officials said on Wednesday.
"UMNO Youth will hold a special meeting to discuss the Anwar crisis," a party official close to the youth movement said.
Members of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), the dominant ruling party are gripped with confusion following the ouster of Anwar last Wednesday by Mahathir on moral grounds.
Twenty-five council members would assemble at UMNO headquarters on Thursday for the meeting to be chaired by Zahid Hamidi, the official said.
Although no formal charges have been laid, Anwar has been accused of sexual impropriety, jeopardizing national security, bribery, interfering with police investigations, tampering with evidence, abuse of power and sedition.
