KL inmate's death still unsolved

CIREBON, West Java: Local authorities have yet to determine the cause of death of Malaysian inmate Koh Kim Cha alias Amzit who was found dead in his cell in Cirebon prison last Thursday due to the absence of an official permit for an autopsy.

Cirebon Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Krido Sudibyo Wahyu, said the Gunung Djati General Hospital has refused to do an autopsy as the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta had not yet granted permission.

"We have checked his cell and summoned witnesses but the cause of death is still unclear," he said.

He added the Malaysian citizen who was jailed for robbery in Batam, Riau, several years ago, was believed to have committed suicide because his trousers were found tied to the bars of his cell.

Cha was one of hundreds of prisoners moved from Cipinang penitentiary in Jakarta last year. --Antara
