KL ends ban on British business
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): The Malaysia government announced
yesterday it was lifting its Feb. 25 ban on British firms to
participate in government contracts with immediate effect.
Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the decision to lift
the ban was made by the cabinet at its weekly meeting yesterday.
"I would like to inform that the cabinet has decided that
British companies will be eligible fully in all government
contracts .. based on their competitivenesss and other abilities
effective today," Anwar told reporters.
The ban was imposed following reports in the British media of
corruption in Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's administration
and in Anglo-Malaysian trade.
