KL doctor held for nine days in jungle
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): A kidnapped Malaysian doctor has been rescued after being chained to a tree in the jungle for nine days and fed on bread and water, reports said on Friday.
A ransom of 500,000 ringgit ($13,158) was paid but the victim was found only after police arrested one of the kidnap gang and interrogated him, the Malay Mail said.
The weak and emaciated doctor was in hospital under heavy police guard after being found chained by four padlocks in secondary jungle near Semenyih southeast of the capital.
Mangsor Ismail, chief of detectives for Selangor state, said the doctor's family was also under guard.
The Malay Mail said three kidnappers still at large had threatened the family after one gang member was arrested and about 125,000 ringgit of the ransom money was recovered. "He (the victim) was treated worse than a dog ... it is a miracle he survived," one police officer was quoted as saying.
