KL disco raided, 652 arrested
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Police forced 652 people including 45
foreigners to undergo urine tests after raiding a nightclub on
the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur looking for drugs, news reports
said on Monday.
Of those held, 15 were Thai nationals and 30 Indonesians, the
Star newspaper reported. Most were aged between 18 and 40 years.
Officers from the anti-narcotics and volunteer security
personnel stormed the nightclub at 3:30 a.m. Sunday (2:30 a.m. in
Jakarta) and found drug-laced cigarettes, Ecstasy pills and a
packet of designer drug known as "ice," on the dance floor.
About 900 people were in the disco at the time of the raid.
The national news agency, Bernama, reported that 128 women and 77
men tested positive for amphetamine-type stimulants, which
includes Ecstasy and "ice." The report did not say if any of the
people arrested were foreigners.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Act, those guilty of drugs offences
can face fines of up to 5,000 ringgit ($1,316) or up to two years
in jail, the paper said.
