KL, Canberra to curb people-smuggling

MALAYSIA: Kuala Lumpur and Canberra have agreed to increase
efforts to stamp out people-smuggling and drug trafficking,
reports said on Friday.

The two countries were concerned that Malaysia was used as a
transit point en route to Australia, Malaysian Deputy Home
Minister Chor Chee Heung was quoted as saying by the New Straits
Times.

Chor said however that Malaysia was not facing a serious
problem as a "launch pad" for trafficking syndicates due to close
cooperation between the two countries.

He said Australian immigration officers would exchange data
with their Malaysian counterparts at airports to detect forged
passports. --AFP
