KL approves trans-ASEAN grid

KUALA LUMPUR (AFX-ASIA): The government has approved plans for
Tenaga Nasional Bhd to negotiate a proposed Trans-ASEAN grid
power system with Indonesia, Tenaga Nasional non-executive
chairman Jamaludin Jarjis was quoted as saying by The Star.

Under the project, electricity from Indonesia will be
connected to the national grid for emergency purposes and for
Malaysia's future power demand.

"Currently, we are linked to Singapore and Thailand but
Indonesia has yet to be part of the arrangement," he added.

Malaysia's current arrangement allows it to access some 250
megawatts of power from Singapore and another 60 megawatts from
Thailand.

Jamaludin said Tenaga Nasional has requested Singapore and
Thailand increase their power arrangement to 300 megawatts each.
