KL approves nine bio-diesel projects

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian government said on Tuesday it has
approved nine license applications for bio-diesel manufacturing
projects, mostly from foreign investors keen on tapping the
potential of alternative fuel.

"These are all investment proposals that have been approved,"
Plantations, Industries and Commodities Minister Peter Chin told
reporters. "Whether they are actually built or not is something
that is to be seen."

He said Singapore and Italy are among the countries whose
companies have applied for licenses to build the projects.

Malaysia is the world's biggest producer of palm oil, which
can be converted into methyl ester, a diesel substitute. -- AP
