KL airport to cut bag quota
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Passengers traveling through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport will be allowed to carry only one hand luggage weighing not more than five kilograms, a news report said on Friday.
Malaysia Airports Managing Director Khairuddin Ibrahim said the move was to ensure additional safety aboard the aircraft. He said the new restriction would be strictly imposed soon.
Business and first class passengers can currently carry two hand bags weighing up to 7 kilograms each. On economy class only one hand luggage of the same weight is allowed.
Many airlines relax cabin baggage rules, allowing passengers to carry more than one bag into the airplane.
The Malaysian move follows a similar one in neighboring Singapore. Changi airport officials last month said it would restrict economy class passengers to carrying one piece of cabin baggage weighing not more than seven kilograms.
