KKP Team Surveys Fishermen's Village Development in Simeulue Island
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Simeulue Regency Marine Affairs and Fisheries Service states that the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has sent a team to the island regency in Aceh Province to survey the site for the development of the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village.
Head of the Simeulue Marine Affairs and Fisheries Service, Supriman Juliansyah, in Simeulue on Saturday, said that the Simeulue Regency Government welcomes the arrival of the KKP survey team as a follow-up to the plan to develop the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village.
“The presence of this team is a follow-up to the visit by Simeulue Regent Muhammad Nasrun Mikaris to KKP in Jakarta some time ago. We welcome the KKP survey team. We also hope for positive results from the presence of this team,” he said.
According to Supriman, there are nine locations spread across ten sub-districts in Simeulue Regency that will be visited by the survey team. The team’s presence, in addition to conducting the survey, also involves monitoring the number of fishermen and the readiness of other facilities.
“Then, the team will also directly observe the condition of fishing gear, market access, the potential marketing of fishermen’s catches, and the potential for developing fish cultivation and marine tourism,” said Supriman Juliansyah.
He added that his side has prepared supporting data and is ready to escort the development of the fishermen’s village in the island regency in the Indian Ocean until completion.
With the development of the fishermen’s village, he said, it will have an impact on improving community welfare. In addition, fishermen in Simeulue Regency will also receive modern fishing equipment facilities and working capital.
“The development of this Merah Putih fishermen’s village is a national programme. The presence of the Merah Putih fishermen’s village will have a positive impact on improving fishermen’s welfare and serve as an example for other regions,” said Supriman Juliansyah.
Simeulue Regency is the outermost island region in Aceh Province. Simeulue Island is in the Indian Ocean, about 180 nautical miles from the west coast of Sumatra Island.
Simeulue Regency has been a split from West Aceh Regency since 1999. Simeulue Regency has 10 sub-districts with 138 villages inhabited by around 96,000 people.
