KKP Targets Fisheries Export Expansion Beyond China and the US

Throughout 2025, the value of Indonesia’s fisheries exports was recorded at more than USD 6 billion, encompassing capture fisheries, aquaculture, and seaweed. In 2026, amid global turmoil, Indonesia’s Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, is optimistic about maintaining the country’s fisheries exports, which have shown a consistent growth trend over the past five years. Currently, capture fisheries exports are primarily destined for the United States and China. In an effort to expand exports, new fisheries production centres are being built, such as the National Strategic Project for an Integrated Shrimp Farm (ISF Waingapu), which is set to be the largest modern shrimp cultivation centre in Indonesia. To meet export standards for fishery products, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries continues to strengthen integrated oversight throughout the fisheries supply chain from upstream to downstream, including through certification and compliance with quality and health standards. Beyond fish, the ministry is also promoting an increase in national salt production through extensification and intensification strategies to meet demand for both consumption and industrial salt. A 200-hectare National Salt Industrial Centre has been built on Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara, which boasts seawater quality comparable to Australia.
