KKP Rehabilitates 90 Salt Production Facilities in Pidie
The rehabilitation of salt production kitchens is a form of central government support for the development of community salt enterprises and the acceleration of increased national salt production.
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is rehabilitating as many as 90 salt production kitchen units in Pidie Regency, Aceh Province, to improve the productivity of salt farmers in the region.
“The rehabilitation of salt production kitchens is a form of central government support for the development of community salt enterprises and the acceleration of increased national salt production,” said KKP Secretary-General Andy Artha Donny Oktapura in Pidie, Aceh Province, on Saturday.
He made the statement while visiting production sites and salt kitchens managed by local communities in Pidie Regency.
During the visit, he also held discussions with local government officials regarding fisheries extension officers and community salt business groups on the development of the salt business.
Andy Artha Donny Oktapura said there are 90 salt kitchen sites to be rehabilitated. These production kitchens are spread across Kembang Tanjong Subdistrict, Simpang Tiga Subdistrict, and Sigli City Subdistrict.
“We hope that with the rehabilitation of these salt kitchens, production will increase and farmers will gain greater benefits. This is part of the government’s effort to improve the productivity of salt farmers in Aceh,” he said.
In addition to the kitchen rehabilitation, KKP has also distributed a brine refinery system (BRS) — a machine that distils and purifies the residual brine from salt processing into safe fresh water or economically valuable derivative products — for the Baro Hudep Group in Cebrek Village, Simpang Tiga Subdistrict.
Furthermore, 180 geomembrane salt tunnel units have been distributed to nine salt business groups in Cebrek Village, Peukan Sot Village, and Gampong Ara. A salt production channel spanning 2,150 metres has also been built in the salt production areas of Gampong Ara, Pasi Ie Leubeue Village, and Keude Ie Leubeue Village.
“As well as the construction of one community salt warehouse unit in Gampong Cebrek, Simpang Tiga Subdistrict. This salt development programme will continue in 2027 for the next phase,” he said.
He acknowledged that Pidie Regency is a hub for community salt production in Aceh Province, with production reaching 5.7 million kilogrammes in 2025. This output is able to meet around 50 per cent of Aceh Province’s salt demand.
Andy Artha Donny Oktapura expressed hope that synergy between the central government, regional governments, fisheries extension officers, and community salt business groups would grow stronger, so that the productivity, quality, and competitiveness of the regency’s community salt would continue to improve.
“We are optimistic that with this synergy among all parties, we can support the realisation of national salt self-sufficiency and improve the welfare of coastal communities, particularly in Pidie Regency,” said Andy Artha Donny Oktapura.
