KKP Rehabilitates 90 Salt Production Facilities in Pidie

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has rehabilitated 90 salt production facilities in Pidie Regency, Aceh Province, to enhance the productivity of local salt farmers. KKP Secretary General Andy Artha Donny Oktapura stated that the rehabilitation is a form of central government support for the development of small-scale salt businesses and the acceleration of national salt production. He made the statement during a visit to salt production sites and facilities managed by the community in Pidie Regency, where he also engaged in dialogue with local government officials, fisheries extension workers, and salt farming groups regarding the progress of the salt business. The 90 production facilities are spread across the sub-districts of Kembang Tanjong, Simpang Tiga, and the town of Sigli. In addition to the rehabilitation, the KKP distributed a brine refinery system to the Baro Hudep group in Cebrek Village, Simpang Tiga, and provided 180 geomembrane tunnel units to nine salt farming groups in Cebrek, Peukan Sot, and Ara villages. The programme also includes the construction of a 2,150-metre salt production channel in the Ara, Pasi Ie Leubeue, and Keude Ie Leubeue village areas, as well as a community salt warehouse in Cebrek Village. The salt development programme is set to continue in 2027. Pidie Regency is a major centre for small-scale salt production in Aceh, with output reaching 5.7 million kilogrammes in 2025, fulfilling approximately 50 percent of the province’s salt needs. The KKP hopes that stronger synergy between the central government, local authorities, fisheries extension workers, and salt farming groups will further improve the productivity, quality, and competitiveness of local salt, ultimately supporting national salt self-sufficiency and improving the welfare of coastal communities, particularly in Pidie.
