Kupang (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) reports that the progress of the National Strategic Project (PSN) for the National Salt Industry Centre (K-SIGN) in Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, has now reached 95 percent.

“We target completion by 7 May. As of last week, the progress is already at 95 percent,” said Secretary of the Directorate General of Marine Management at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Miftahul Huda, in Kupang on Thursday.

This was stated during a meeting on the integrated team discussion and land acquisition preparations for the National Salt Industry Centre (K-SIGN) in Kupang.

He added that once 100 percent completion is achieved on 7 May 2026, the first harvest is expected in July 2026.

He stated that nationally, KKP targets 2,000 hectares of land for the K-SIGN in Rote. However, the area has now reached 13,000 hectares.

Miftahul added that they target one hectare to yield 200 tons per harvest or per year in Rote Ndao.

Thus, he said, if the land area can be fully utilised and harvests maximised, the yield could reach 350,000 tons in the following two years.

He further added that if the project in Sabu Raijua succeeds by 2027, all imports of salt for various foods will come from Rote Ndao Regency.

Miftahul hopes for support from all parties, including the community, so that the project can run smoothly, considering it will have a positive impact on the economy of the southernmost regency in Indonesia.
