KKP Halts Operations of Two Companies in Siak for Operating Without Permits
The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has temporarily halted the activities of two companies, PT MNS and PT TFDI, in Siak Regency, Riau, after they were proven to be utilising marine space without permits. Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision (PSDKP) at the KKP, Pung Nugroho Saksono, emphasised that every business actor utilising marine space must possess a Marine Space Utilisation Activity Conformity Approval (PKKPRL) document to preserve coastal and marine ecosystems. “We support investment and business activities that benefit the community. However, all activities must be carried out in accordance with applicable regulations,” Pung Nugroho stated in an official release in Jakarta on Monday.
Pung explained that the temporary suspension carried out on Thursday (18/6) was a follow-up to the results of a patrol by the supervisory vessel KP HIU 01. Based on inspections and confirmation with management, PT MNS, a domestic investor, and PT TFDI, a foreign investor, were proven to have built facilities on a total marine space area of approximately 6,000 square metres without the required permits. Director of Marine Space Supervision, Sumono Darwinto, who led the sealing on site, detailed that each company had built facilities on 3,000 square metres of marine space. “This temporary suspension is in accordance with Government Regulation Number 21 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Spatial Planning and Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 30 of 2021 concerning Marine Space Supervision,” Sumono said.
Sumono further explained that officers on site had installed seal boards at several points. In the PT MNS area, sealing was carried out at two locations: the slipway construction area and the pier construction area, which involved land reclamation. Meanwhile, in the PT TFDI area, sealing was carried out at four points which are the company’s special terminals. Despite this, Sumono noted that both companies were cooperative and committed to immediately processing their permit obligations in accordance with applicable regulations. The KKP stated it will continue to ensure that all marine space utilisation activities proceed according to the rules to realise orderly, legal, and sustainable marine space governance.
