The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) distributed 4 tonnes of frozen scad mackerel to residents in Central Jakarta as part of the series of events marking the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on Tuesday (18/8). The social initiative targeted two main locations, namely the Johar Baru and Kemayoran areas.

Each location received an allocation of 2 tonnes of fish, which was distributed directly to residents in a festive people’s party atmosphere. The activity aims to bring the government’s presence to the community while sharing happiness in the moment of independence.

Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono explained that the fish distribution is a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s instruction to enliven the independence commemoration at various points in Jakarta.

“This is part of the festivities carried out by the government on the instruction of President Prabowo. At several points in Jakarta, the commemoration of Indonesian Independence Day remains lively and continues to be kept alive,” said Minister Trenggono in Jakarta.

Trenggono expressed hope that the series of people’s parties can maintain the spirit of togetherness among residents. After leaving Kemayoran, the Minister continued a similar agenda to Johar Baru to ensure the fish distribution ran smoothly.

Beyond being a form of celebration, the KKP’s move is a strategic effort to bring fishery products closer to the public. The government continues to encourage increased fish consumption as a highly nutritious food source for urban residents.

Through the momentum of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, the KKP hopes that the spirit of sharing can continue to grow. The independence commemoration is expected not only to be a ceremony remembering the nation’s struggle, but also to provide tangible benefits felt directly by the wider community.
