KKP Continues to Oversee Wastewater Treatment Plant Repairs at Situbondo Company Accused of Pollution

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is rigorously overseeing the commitment to repair the Wastewater Treatment System (IPAL) at a seaweed processing company in Situbondo, East Java, which is suspected of polluting the local marine environment.

Director of Fisheries Resource Supervision at the KKP’s Directorate General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision, Sahono Budianto, stated that he continues to monitor the repairs to the Wastewater Treatment System (IPAL) by PT Fuyuan Biologi Technology (PT FBT) in Banyuglugur Village/Subdistrict, Situbondo, which went viral on social media several weeks ago.

“We are ensuring that repairs are carried out in accordance with the business operator’s commitment to prevent potential pollution of fish resources and the ecosystem following the improvement of the company’s IPAL,” he said in a written statement received in Situbondo on Wednesday.

According to Sahono, the seaweed processing company has routinely submitted a daily progress report during the 14-day commitment period to repair the IPAL.

“The next stage is to conduct water quality tests to ensure the quality standards of the seaweed processing industry’s wastewater comply with the provisions stipulated in the Minister of Environment Regulation Number 5 of 2014,” said Sahono.

On 26 July 2026, the KKP conducted an unannounced inspection of PT FBT and gave the company time to improve its wastewater management after receiving public complaints regarding the alleged environmental pollution.
