Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is holding the Marine Survey Equipment Training (MSET) in Ancol, Jakarta, as part of the cooperation under the Korea–Indonesia Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Centre (KIOTEC) to strengthen marine human resource capacity through international collaboration.

The Head of the KKP Agency for Extension and Development of Marine and Fisheries Human Resources, I Nyoman Radiarta, emphasised that this programme is a strategic step aligned with national policies, particularly in the development of fisheries aquaculture, strengthening the capture fleet, and data-based marine resource management.

“All of this requires superior human resources (HR) and accurate marine data, where KIOTEC plays an important role,” he stated in an official release in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He stressed the importance of adaptive, science-based HR to face global challenges such as climate change and food needs.

KIOTEC Project Manager Park Hansan emphasised that capacity building is not only from a technical perspective but also a collaborative mindset across disciplines.

“The focus of KIOTEC’s ODA (official development assistance) is not only on programmes or facilities, but on developing HR capable of understanding the complexity of the sea and translating science into concrete solutions,” he said.

The training is scheduled for 13-16 April 2026, with a focus on enhancing the capacity of young Indonesian marine professionals.

The training is attended by 40 master’s students from nine universities: ITB, IPB, UGM, Undip, Unhas, Unpas, UB, Unpatti, and UNUD.

The MSET training focuses on marine physical measurements, covering the use of acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) for sea current analysis, conductivity, temperature, depth (CTD) for water column profiling, as well as grab sampler and sieve shaker for geological and benthic analysis.

KIOTEC was launched on 24 February 2026 in Jakarta as a training centre resulting from collaboration between KKP and South Korea’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

This programme not only provides training infrastructure but also technology transfer, strengthening international networks, and enhancing national marine research capacity.
