KKP and China Conduct Joint Inspection to Safeguard Fish Export Access

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) together with China’s customs authority, the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), are conducting a joint inspection of several Fish Processing Units (UPIs) to maintain and improve export market access for Indonesian fishery products to the country. Acting Head of the Agency for Quality Control and Surveillance of Marine and Fishery Products (KKP Quality Agency), Ishartini, stated that the joint inspection is a routine activity forming part of the implementation of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. “This is a regular activity as a prerequisite to maintain, and even improve, market access and the acceptance of our products in China,” Ishartini said during the opening meeting of the GACC inspection in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted from a press statement. She explained that the KKP and GACC have a bilateral Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA), meaning only fishery companies registered with both authorities can conduct export and import activities for fishery products. During this inspection, the KKP and GACC team examined three UPIs out of a total of 648 Indonesian UPIs registered with the GACC as of 19 July 2026. Based on KKP data from 2025, these three UPIs exported more than 5,000 tonnes of fishery products to China, with a value reaching USD 18 million, or approximately IDR 322 billion. During the inspection, the team will assess the implementation of sanitation, hygiene, food safety standards, and the traceability system within the production process.
