The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is accelerating the recovery of the fisheries sector in Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh, following flash floods and landslides that occurred at the end of 2025, through regulatory support for marine spatial use and sedimentation management. Permana Yudiarso, Director of Coastal and Small Island Utilisation at the KKP’s Directorate General of Marine Spatial Management, stated that the support includes the construction of a ‘Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih’ (Red and White Fishermen’s Village), expedited licensing for marine space utilisation, sedimentation management, and coastal area development to address the challenges faced by fishermen. “Aceh Besar Regency has strategic potential as a centre for fisheries-based economic development, so to accelerate post-disaster development, one of the KKP’s priorities is strengthening regulations on the use of marine space and its coastal areas,” Permana said in an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. He explained that one of the current problems faced by fishermen is the shallowing of shipping channels due to post-flood sedimentation. This condition means that boats can only enter and leave the port during high tide, hampering fishing activities. To support the recovery of the fisheries sector, he confirmed that the KKP is accelerating the issuance of Marine Space Utilisation Activity Conformity Approvals (KKPRL) as the legal basis for marine space use. He also stated that the KKP is collaborating with various stakeholders in area development, which includes coastal spatial planning, community empowerment, increasing investment in the marine sector, and strengthening coastal area governance. The KKP and the Aceh Provincial Government have agreed to synergise to accelerate the resolution of various marine space issues in Aceh arising from the flash floods and landslides. Aceh Besar Regent Muharram Idris expressed hope that the KKP’s support could be realised immediately to facilitate fishermen’s activities and encourage the economic recovery of coastal communities. “We hope these programmes can be realised immediately so as to improve access for fishermen, facilitate fishing activities and encourage economic growth for coastal communities in Aceh Besar,” said Muharram.
