KKP Accelerates Development of Integrated Shrimp Pond Area in Waingapu
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) continues to drive the acceleration of the development of an integrated shrimp pond area in Waingapu, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), so that this strategic project can soon become operational and provide economic benefits.
The Director General of Aquaculture at KKP, Tb. Haeru Rahayu, revealed that the current construction progress is still in the early stages, but the government is committed to speeding up its completion.
“We have indeed just started. If asked about the progress, it is likely not yet reaching 10 percent of the overall work,” Haeru said in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
Nevertheless, KKP targets to accelerate the development so that the integrated shrimp pond area can soon be utilised.
“We want to carry out accelerations so that it can be completed earlier. Why? Because we want this programme to run well as soon as possible,” he said.
To ensure the project implementation proceeds according to plan, KKP is also continuously conducting intensive coordination with the consortium involved in the development.
“After this agenda, we will hold a meeting with the consortium team to ensure the implementation process on the ground, including design and other technical aspects, remains well controlled,” Haeru stated.
Haeru emphasised that accelerating the development is the main focus so that the economic benefits from this project can soon be felt.
“We hope that within these two years it can be completed. Next year, God willing, there will already be some that we can operationalise,” he said.
He added that various acceleration steps are currently being consulted with the implementing consortium to ensure the development process runs optimally.
“We want to carry out accelerations. This is what we are consulting and discussing with our consortium colleagues who have indeed been mandated to carry out this development,” he stressed.
