KKB Member Nopison Killed After Gunfight with Police in Central Papua

The incident occurred on the main road between Dogiyai and Paniai in Central Papua on Sunday (10/5/2026). Security personnel initially received reports from residents regarding attacks and security disturbances carried out by the KKB group against motorists on the Trans Papua road.

“Following up on the report, joint personnel moved quickly to the location and conducted a sweep. Upon arriving at the site, the apparatus faced resistance from the armed group, leading to a gunfight,” said the Central Papua Police Chief, Brigadier General Jermias Rontini.

Police who received the report then proceeded to the scene, where a patrol vehicle was also shot at. The apparatus retaliated and successfully shot dead one KKB member.

“The patrol team was attacked, and then firm action was taken. As a result of that action, one suspect is believed to be paralysed,” said Dennis.

From the sweep, a homemade 5.56 calibre firearm and 5.56 calibre ammunition were found. In addition, there were several sharp weapons and arrows, as well as important KKB documentation.
