The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru has facilitated the repatriation of an Indonesian child who was separated from his mother in Malaysia. The child, identified by the initials IN, is 1 year and 8 months old. KJRI stated that while in Malaysia, IN was separated from his mother because she was involved in immigration issues and needed to undergo legal proceedings according to the applicable laws of the Malaysian government. After completing the legal process, the mother was repatriated to Indonesia without IN. During this period, IN was cared for by Malaysian authorities before the KJRI Johor Bahru took over the case. Since receiving information about IN’s whereabouts, the KJRI Johor Bahru actively coordinated with the Johor Bahru District Social Welfare Department (JKM) to ensure the child’s condition, safety, and needs were continuously met while in temporary care. To prepare for IN’s repatriation to Indonesia, the KJRI Johor Bahru facilitated the issuance of travel documents and the payment of a special pass to the Johor State Immigration Department, as well as issuing a birth certificate for IN. This ensured that IN had the necessary documents for civil registration and population administration in Indonesia. Consul for Consular Affairs 4, Adinda Mardania, urged all Indonesian citizens abroad to always comply with immigration regulations and legal provisions in their destination country, including Malaysia. ‘What we do can impact the safety, welfare, and integrity of our families,’ said Adinda Mardania. IN has now been reunited with his mother.
