KJP Revocation for Jakarta Students in Gang Fights Not a Final Punishment, Education Continues

Jakarta, KOMPAS.com – Jakarta’s Education Department (Disdik) has confirmed that students involved in gang fights must continue their education even if their Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) assistance is revoked.

Nahdiana, Head of Jakarta’s Disdik, stated that revoking KJP for students involved in gang fights complies with regulations. However, the students must still receive guidance to prevent school dropout.

Nahdiana explained that Disdik DKI will coordinate with schools and families to determine the most appropriate next steps for the students’ education. She noted that each child has different needs and characteristics, so handling must be tailored accordingly.

‘Usually, we communicate with schools to see which one the student is better suited for, whether School A or School B,’ she said.

She stressed that revoking KJP does not mean denying children’s right to education. The policy is considered guidance, not merely punishment.

‘The key is to prevent dropout. The question is where the students will go next. Clearly, those currently out of school are being reintegrated into educational institutions,’ she added.

The Jakarta Education Department considers that education does not always have to be pursued through formal schooling. Students deemed unsuitable for certain schools can continue their education via non-formal or vocational pathways.

‘Some students may not fit into School A due to their vocational strengths,’ Nahdiana said.

Nahdiana noted that addressing student gang fights cannot solely rest on schools.
