PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia’s Supadio International Airport branch has recorded five reports of kite activity within the Operational Flight Safety Zone (KKOP) between January and May 2026, prompting strengthened prevention efforts to safeguard aviation. General Manager Maya Damayanti stated that the reports were relayed by pilots through Air Traffic Control (ATC) to the airport for follow-up action. She explained that kite flying near the airport area can potentially disrupt aircraft take-off and landing processes, posing a risk to flight safety. Although often considered a harmless pastime, kites flying in airspace around the airport can endanger aircraft and passengers. The airport held a socialisation event on the dangers of kites within the KKOP, involving the West Kalimantan Satpol PP, Kubu Raya Satpol PP, the provincial and district transportation agencies, village governments, schools, airlines, and other relevant agencies. Maya emphasised that education is crucial, as most violations stem from a lack of public understanding about the impact of such activities on flight safety. The airport continues preventive measures through digital media campaigns, warning banners, and educational raids with local regulation enforcement officers. She stressed that ensuring flight safety is a shared responsibility, not solely that of the airport operator or airlines. Relevant regulations include Law Number 1 of 2009 on Aviation, West Kalimantan Provincial Regulation Number 2 of 2008 on the Control of Flight Operation Safety Zones and Noise Zones at Supadio Airport, and Kubu Raya Regency Regulation Number 17 of 2023 on Public Order and Protection. Violations not only endanger flight safety but also carry legal consequences. Through cross-sector collaboration and enhanced public education, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia aims to create safe and orderly airspace to support flight safety at Supadio International Airport.
