Kirab Ancak Agung in Jember breaks MURI record again

The Ancak Agung procession organised by the Jember Regency Government has once again broken the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) record, with 867 ancak paraded from Gajahmada Street to the Jember Regency Square in East Java on Saturday afternoon.

“This figure breaks the previous record, which was also set by Jember with 449 ancak agung, and this year there are 867 ancak, making it the largest number ever,” said MURI Senior Representative Ari Andriani in Jember.

In addition to the ancak procession, a gunungan of suwar-suwir, a traditional Jember snack, also broke a MURI record with 1,600 packets of suwar-suwir arranged to a height of 3.7 metres.

Carrying the theme “Preserving Tradition, Strengthening Ukhuwah, Elevating Jember’s Dignity”, the event served as a moment to maintain tradition and strengthen mutual cooperation and fellowship within the community.

Jember Regent Muhammad Fawait called on all elements of society to maintain unity and strengthen relationships with one another.

During the event, Fawait also wore a scarf featuring Indonesian and Palestinian motifs as a form of solidarity with the humanitarian struggle of the Palestinian people.

“This stance is in line with the mandate of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, which affirms that independence is the right of all nations,” he said.

After being documented by MURI officials, hundreds of the gunungan were scrambled for by residents who had been waiting since midday at Jember Square. The agricultural produce that formed part of the ancak was fully distributed to the public.
