KIP Kuliah 2026 Uses DTSEN as 39,662 Candidates Qualify via SNBT Selection
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology has officially announced the results of the KIP Kuliah programme under the National Test-Based Selection (SNBT) 2026.
This year’s KIP Kuliah selection process uses a new system based on the National Social and Economic Single Data (DTSEN) as the primary criterion for determining scholarship recipients.
Sandro Mihradi, Acting Head of the Higher Education Financing and Assessment Centre (PPAPT) at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, stated that DTSEN is the key differentiator from previous years.
‘This is the main difference from previous years, as DTSEN has officially replaced the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) as the primary reference for social assistance disbursement. KIP Kuliah is part of the state-provided social assistance,’ Sandro said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, 25 May 2026.
Under the new rules, assistance recipients are prioritised for those in the very poor to vulnerable categories, corresponding to deciles 1 to 4 in the DTSEN data.
‘KIP Kuliah is intended for individuals with welfare categories ranging from very poor to vulnerable, which equates to deciles 1, 2, 3, and 4,’ Sandro added.
The new scheme is implemented by the government to ensure educational assistance reaches students who truly need and are eligible for financial support.
Of the total, 2,656 prospective students were not listed in the DTSEN welfare deciles.
The ministry stated that those not registered in the DTSEN system will undergo verification and validation by their respective universities. The verification results will serve as the basis for KIP Kuliah recipient proposals.
The government has instructed universities to consider placing students in UKT 1 or UKT 2 categories and to assist in finding alternative scholarships.
With the implementation of DTSEN for KIP Kuliah 2026, the government aims to ensure more precise targeting of educational aid without reducing opportunities for students from low-income families to pursue higher education.
