KIP Kuliah 2026 still open: requirements and how to apply via independent pathway
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The opportunity to receive education assistance through the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) Kuliah 2026 programme remains open for prospective students taking part in independent university admissions.
According to the official KIP Kuliah website of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), registration for KIP Kuliah 2026 accounts is open until 31 October 2026. Meanwhile, registration for the Independent Selection pathway at state universities (PTN) and private universities (PTS) runs from 15 June to 31 October 2026.
This means prospective students who have not yet obtained KIP Kuliah through the SNBP or UTBK-SNBT pathways can still take advantage of the opportunity through independent selection, provided they meet the requirements and are accepted at a university and study programme that complies with KIP Kuliah provisions.
KIP Kuliah is a government education cost assistance scheme aimed at high school graduates or equivalent who have good academic potential but face economic hardship.
Based on the official KIP Kuliah guidelines, applicants are high school students or equivalent who will graduate in the current year or have graduated no more than two years previously.
For 2026 registration, prospective students who can create an account are 2026, 2025, or 2024 graduates who are not yet registered as active university students.
In addition to having good academic potential and economic hardship, prospective recipients must also pass the new student admission selection and be accepted at a PTN or PTS on a study programme that meets KIP Kuliah accreditation requirements.
Economic hardship can be demonstrated through several conditions. Prospective students may be KIP recipients, be recorded in the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) at a maximum of decile 4, or come from a social institution or orphanage.
For prospective students who do not fall within these criteria, registration is still possible if they meet the parental or guardian income requirements. In this case, the combined gross income of parents or guardians in one month must be below the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) of the student’s domicile of origin and be accompanied by a Certificate of Financial Incapacity (SKTM).
Starting in 2026, the government is also strengthening KIP Kuliah distribution by prioritising high school/vocational school graduates who are PIP recipients and prospective students recorded in DTSEN at deciles 1 to 4.
Registration is carried out online through the official KIP Kuliah website. Prospective students need to prepare their NIK, NISN, NPSN, and an active email address before creating an account.
After accessing the KIP Kuliah website, prospective students can select the account registration menu and fill in their NIK, NISN, NPSN, and active email. The data is then validated by the system.
If the validation process is successful, prospective students can proceed with registration and select the independent selection pathway according to their intended university.
After that, prospective students must still follow the new student admission process organised by the campus. KIP Kuliah registration does not replace the university’s independent selection registration process, so prospective students need to follow the rules and schedules of each campus.
If declared successful and completing re-registration, the university will carry out a verification and validation process to determine the prospective student’s eligibility as a KIP Kuliah recipient.
Registration remains open until October 2026
Based on the official schedule, KIP Kuliah 2026 account registration closes on 31 October 2026. For Independent Selection at PTN and Independent Selection at PTS, the registration period also runs until the same date.
Prospective students are advised not to wait until near the deadline because the independent selection schedule for each university may differ. In addition, prospective applicants need to ensure that their chosen study programme and university are available in the KIP Kuliah system.
The KIP Kuliah programme itself remains one of the government’s efforts to expand access to higher education for people with economic hardship. In 2026, the KIP Kuliah budget allocation reaches approximately Rp15.32 trillion with a target of 1,047,221 student recipients.
With the independent pathway still open until the end of October, prospective students who meet the requirements still have the opportunity to register and receive the assistance. However, designation as a recipient still goes through a verification and validation process after the prospective student is accepted at a university.
