Kioxia Introduces First PCIe 6.0 Enterprise SSD Utilising Latest 10th Generation BiCS FLASH™ Memory
Tokyo, (ANTARA/BUSINESS WIRE) - Kioxia Corporation today announced the KIOXIA CM10 Series Solid-State Drives (SSD), equipped with the company’s latest 10th Generation TLC BiCS FLASH™ memory. Designed to handle demanding enterprise and AI workloads, including AI inference and context caching, these new SSDs support the NVIDIA CMX™ architecture while delivering significant enhancements in performance, power savings, and cooling system flexibility compared to previous generations.
The KIOXIA CM10 Series represents Kioxia’s first PCIe 6.0 enterprise SSD and offers direct liquid cooling capabilities via a cold plate, enabling more efficient cooling implementations for next-generation AI infrastructure. Compared to the previous generation, the KIOXIA CM10 Series delivers performance increases of up to approximately 92% for sequential read performance and up to approximately 85% for random read performance. These improvements help accelerate AI inference requiring large volumes of data and enterprise applications while simultaneously enhancing overall system efficiency.
As AI models continue to evolve to include trillions of parameters and context windows expanding to millions of tokens, the need for high-performance context cache storage is increasing rapidly. Architectures such as NVIDIA CMX™ expand the memory hierarchy beyond GPU memory by leveraging ultra-high-speed flash memory storage, making enterprise SSDs an increasingly vital component in AI infrastructure. The KIOXIA CM10 Series is designed to meet these evolving needs by providing the performance, capacity, and endurance required to support large-scale AI implementations.
Key features of the KIOXIA CM10 Series include:
Compliance with PCIe 6.0, NVMe™ 2.1, and Open Compute Project (OCP) Datacenter NVMe SSD Specification v2.7, including support for NVMe Flexible Data Placement (FDP).
Available in E3.S, E1.S, and 2.5-inch form factors, with liquid cooling capabilities via cold plate available for the E3.S and E1.S 9.5 mm form factors (all form factors also support traditional air cooling environments).
Available in capacities ranging from 1.60 TB to 61.44 TB (varying by form factor), with options for read-intensive (1 DWPD) and mixed-use (3 DWPD) endurance.
Utilises cutting-edge 10th Generation KIOXIA BiCS FLASH™ (332 layers) to enhance SSD performance and power efficiency.
Security options include SIE, SED, SED FIPS 140-3 (planned), CNSA 2.0-recommended post-quantum cryptography, and SPDM 1.4 attestation support.
Samples of the KIOXIA CM10 Series SSD are currently being distributed to selected customers and will be showcased at FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage from 4-6 August in Santa Clara, California.
