Kiosks collapse into river

BOGOR: Several people were injured when 12 kiosks in the Cibinong market in Bogor regency, collapsed into the Kali Baru River on Monday.

Ujang Dadang, 30, a fruit vendor in the market, said the incident happened at about noon.

"I was surprised when I heard a man calling for help. When I went to check on him, I saw the kiosks had collapsed into the river," he said.

There are about 350 kiosks in the market located along the riverbank.

Cibinong district head, Helmi Gustian, said it was not "proper" to build kiosks along the riverbank, but added that no decision had been made on how to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The collapsed kiosks, each measuring 7.5 square meters, sold various items, including fish, meat, staple foods and gold.--JP
