Kiosk in Batubulan Burnt Out, Rp30 Million Losses

A kiosk on Gang Telabah 2, Batubulan Village, Sukawati District, Gianyar, was engulfed by flames. The fire consumed the kiosk building, resulting in losses of Rp 30 million for the owner. ‘The fire in the kiosk occurred at 8:00 p.m. local time (WITA),’ said the Gianyar Police Resort Public Relations Head, Ipda Gusti Ngurah Suardita, in his statement on Sunday, 8 March 2026. A few hours earlier, the area around the scene experienced a power outage. The kiosk owned by Ni Ketut Sulendri (67) also lost power. Somehow, the fire started inside the kiosk. Local residents who saw the glow of the flames inside the kiosk immediately shouted ‘fire’. Residents briefly attempted to put out the fire themselves, but their efforts failed. The fire grew and burned almost all of the goods for sale in the kiosk. The incident was reported to the police and the fire department. The fire service arrived at the scene at 8:00 p.m. WITA. Only half an hour later, the fire was extinguished. After the blaze was brought under control, the area around the scene returned to a safe and secure condition. The incident is being investigated by police. Based on preliminary on-site investigations, the blaze is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit after the building’s PLN meter had experienced disturbance or power outage, said Suardita.
