King Charles: An increasingly turbulent world threatens the United Kingdom

London (ANTARA) - King Charles III stated that the United Kingdom faces growing risks from “an increasingly dangerous and turbulent world”, one of which stems from the conflict in the Middle East.

“An increasingly dangerous and turbulent world threatens the United Kingdom; the conflict in the Middle East is the latest example,” said Charles in his speech at the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday.

He noted that the current global turmoil will test aspects of the United Kingdom’s energy, defence, and economic security.

Charles also emphasised that the government will take new steps to improve relations with the European Union.

“My ministers will introduce legislation to capitalise on new trade opportunities, including a draft bill to strengthen relations with the European Union,” he said.

The UK government is also said to seek to enhance relations with European countries “as an important step in strengthening European security”.

“This will continue to promote long-term peace in the Middle East and a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine,” he stated.

Charles added that national energy security requires long-term investment and reform, referring to several recent events in the Middle East.
