The brutal murder of KYR, a 36-year-old Sedayu resident in Bantul, which had been shrouded in mystery for a week, is beginning to unfold. Police have now identified the alleged perpetrator of the brutal killing. However, officers have not yet provided a complete explanation of the motive and are continuing to question the suspect while exploring the possibility of additional perpetrators.

The murder occurred on Wednesday (25 February) in the early hours when the victim was at home sleeping with his wife and child. The attacker suddenly forced entry into the house and attacked the victim with a sharp weapon. The victim sustained serious injuries and died.

The case, which had gone dark for a week, remained a mystery: a week after the murder, police had not yet identified the perpetrator. Bantul Police public relations chief Iptu Rita Hidayanto said the murder case was still under investigation, with seven witnesses having been questioned so far. ‘Seven witnesses have been questioned, but the suspect has not yet been identified,’ she told detikJogja on Wednesday (4 March 2026). ‘It is still being studied.’ Of the seven, four were the victim’s friends who were at the home at the time, and one was the victim’s wife.

After more than a week, the brutal murder suspect was finally captured. The two men were rounded up after undergoing questioning at the police station on Thursday (5 March). ‘Earlier today, around 04:00 WIB, the Bantul Resmob Team together with the Jatanras Opsnal Team of the DIY Regional Police and the Sedayu Police Sector’s Criminal Investigation Unit secured the suspected perpetrators in Sedayu,’ Rita Hidayanto said. She explained that investigators had conducted witness interviews and analysed CCTV footage and subsequently identified the suspects. ‘After that, the two suspects were asked to come to the Sedayu Police Station,’ she said during a call to detikJogja on Thursday (5 March 2026).

The two suspects arrived at the Sedayu Police Station at around 04:00 WIB, were interrogated, and eventually admitted to their roles. ‘Coincidentally, they were cooperative and, after questioning, admitted to their actions,’ she added.

Rita stressed that the two did not surrender themselves but answered the police summons to the Sedayu Police Station, given that police had identified their identities and addresses.

One Suspect Charged

Although two people had been arrested, only one has so far been named as a suspect. The suspect is SS (29), believed to have been the executor who struck the victim fatally. The other, FS (22), who acted as the motorbike rider, remains a witness.

Both suspects, initials SS (29) and FS (22), are residents of Gamping, Sleman. After being taken into custody, they were transported to Bantul Police. ‘From the investigations, SS’s role is the executor and he has been named a suspect,’ she told reporters in Bantul on Thursday (5 March 2026). ‘As for FS, his role was to drive SS to the victim’s home. FS is currently not charged.’

Regarding evidence, Rita said it is still being sought. The two are currently at Bantul Police Station undergoing further questioning, and the suspect is in custody. Regarding motive, Rita said it was rooted in hurt feelings. ‘So it was because the suspect was offended by the victim’s words,’ Rita said.
