Kijing Terminal Launches Maiden Container Export, Boosting National Logistics Connectivity
Mempawah, 29 June 2026 – Kijing Terminal in Mempawah Regency has reached a significant milestone in the development of the logistics and international trade sector. Pelindo officially launched its maiden container export voyage on Monday, 29 June, using a vessel owned by PT Pulau Laut Line, bound for international markets via Kijing Terminal Mempawah, which is operated by PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas). This inaugural service is a strategic step to strengthen logistics connectivity, improve supply chain efficiency, and enhance the competitiveness of key commodities in the global market, thereby supporting the government’s efforts to lower national logistics costs, attract new investment, and drive economic growth in West Kalimantan. During the maiden export, several exporters from the Kijing and Tayan port areas shipped various key commodities. PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia exported 12 twenty-foot containers of Alumina Hydroxide to Pasir Gudang, Malaysia. PT Unicoco Industries Indonesia also sent two containers of processed coconut products (Dedicated Coconut) to the same destination, while PT Ferrindo exported 10 containers of whole coconuts to Yangpu, China. Meanwhile, from the Tayan area, PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina shipped 150 twenty-foot containers destined for South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. The maiden export release was attended by West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan, Mempawah Regent Erlina, Pelindo Commercial Director Farid Padang, and other key stakeholders. Pelindo Commercial Director Farid Padang stated that the commencement of exports through Kijing Terminal is a strategic move by Pelindo to strengthen the national logistics network while opening up economic growth opportunities in West Kalimantan. “Today at Kijing-Mempawah Port, we are conducting our maiden export, with sea freight and a total of 180 containers containing alumina products, coconut products, and processed oil. We will provide larger ships, new cranes, and extend the pier. Hopefully, this step brings blessings and encourages economic growth for West Kalimantan,” said Farid Padang. West Kalimantan Governor H. Ria Norsan appreciated Pelindo for initiating the container export service through Kijing Mempawah Terminal. He expressed hope that Kijing Terminal would develop into an export-import hub in West Kalimantan and affirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting port development through a conducive investment climate, accelerated licensing, and increased local employment. Pelindo Regional 2 Executive Director 2 Budi Prasetio noted that the maiden export was the result of synergy between Pelindo, the government, regulators, shipping companies, exporters, and all stakeholders in optimising Kijing Terminal. He stated that this maiden export is proof of the growing confidence of business players in Kijing Terminal. Pelindo has also prepared various supporting facilities, including container handling equipment, ensuring the terminal is ready to provide more effective, efficient, and competitive services. General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak, Yanto, added that the presence of direct export services through Kijing Terminal offers many advantages for exporters. In addition to reducing logistics costs due to the port’s proximity to industrial areas and warehouses, this service also speeds up the delivery time of goods to destination countries. “With this service, exporters no longer depend on ports outside West Kalimantan. Land transport costs become more efficient, while delivery times are also shorter. For the Pasir Gudang route, a direct call service is available, while commodities destined for China can be faster through a transshipment process in Pasir Gudang,” he said. Along with the commencement of container export services, Kijing Terminal’s operational performance has continued to show significant growth since being operated by PTP Nonpetikemas. Throughput increased from 1.95 million tonnes in 2023 to 2.75 million tonnes in 2024, and exceeded 4 million tonnes in 2025. Entering the first quarter of 2026, Kijing Terminal again recorded a throughput of approximately 1.5 million tonnes, dominated by dry bulk commodities at 845 thousand tonnes and liquid bulk at 662 thousand tonnes.
