Kids on buses these days

From Media Indonesia

I hail the government's decision to increase bus fares for the
public, but the charge for school children and university
students remains Rp 100. This demonstrates the government's
commitment to student welfare in its effort to enhance the
intellectual capacity of the people.

But, ironically, there is no morality on the part on some
pupils on the buses. Some pupils have very little concern for
older commuters or women carrying children. The pupils normally
leave the older folks standing, showing no respect or sympathy.

I recall a time when I was still a young man in the 1970s in
Medan. At that time students paid half the fare paid by the
general public. And they were tolerant enough to give up their
seats whenever older folks or full-paying commuters boarded the
bus, with no hard feelings. This was done almost automatically
and naturally. Why can't the present generation adopt this good
moral attitude ?
