SURABAYA — The Indonesian music industry has received sad news. Singer Vidi Aldiano passed away on Saturday 7 March 2026 at the age of 35 after battling kidney cancer, which he had suffered from in recent years.

The death of the singer of “Nuansa Bening” has not only left sorrow for his family and fans, but has also renewed public attention towards kidney cancer. This is a disease that often develops without clear symptoms in the early stages. However, when symptoms do begin to appear, the disease is frequently already at an advanced stage.

The incidence of kidney cancer in Indonesia is estimated at approximately 2.4–3 cases per 100,000 people annually. Despite this, the disease remains dangerous because it often shows no signs in the early phase.

“Consequently, patients often seek treatment after the cancer has already reached an advanced stage, which then produces symptoms,” said a doctor commonly referred to as Dr Ning in an interview with Kompas.com.

In medical terms, kidney cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the kidney organ. The most common type is renal cell carcinoma (RCC), which is frequently found in patients aged over 50 years.

In many cases, kidney cancer is only detected when it has already caused certain complaints. Some symptoms that frequently appear include blood in urine, pain in the lower back or side of the back, and the appearance of a lump in the abdominal or lower back area.

According to Dr Ning, the combination of these symptoms is known as the “classic triad” of kidney cancer, although not all patients experience them. For this reason, many patients only discover their illness after the cancer has progressed further.

“The development of kidney cancer is influenced by multiple factors ranging from genetic factors, unhealthy lifestyle factors, and environmental factors,” said the doctor who works at the Ministry of Health Hospital in Surabaya.

For this reason, the risk of kidney cancer is known to increase in people who have smoking habits, lead unhealthy lifestyles, or are frequently exposed to environments with hazardous materials.
