Kidnapping Report Withdrawn Despite Jesslyn Still Missing, Police Continue Investigation
Police have revealed that a report concerning the alleged kidnapping of female golf athlete Jesslyn Wijaya Lay at a restaurant in Central Jakarta has been withdrawn by the complainant. Despite this, the police are continuing their investigation.
“The latest development is that on Sunday, 19 July, the complainant came to the Central Jakarta Metro Police to withdraw the report,” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKBP Roby Heri Saputra when contacted on Tuesday (21/7/2026).
The complainant in this case has the initials NA, who is a colleague of the victim. Roby stated that the investigation is proceeding to ascertain whether the victim was truly kidnapped or not.
“However, we at the Central Jakarta Metro Police have not stopped the investigation because we have yet to find an account of what actually happened, whether there was a criminal act involved in this incident,” he said.
The alleged kidnapping incident occurred on Monday night (13/7). The victim was reportedly approached by five individuals while attending a family birthday celebration at a restaurant in the Central Jakarta area.
“It is suspected that the victim was approached by five people who forcibly took her away from the restaurant,” he said.
The victim has not yet been found and is believed to be outside Jakarta. Police have examined CCTV footage and visited the victim’s residence.
“There is a possibility she is not in the city of Jakarta. However, we are still investigating to find out whether this incident was of the victim’s own volition or whether there is indeed a suspected criminal act of kidnapping as initially reported,” he explained.
